I lost a child.
Every time I think about
Everyone who’s lost a child.
Our community’s stolen children.
My family’s naked truths.
Our legacy twisted, untold, and bruised.
I lost a child.
Looking into your mother’s eyes.
You were led astray.
Sucked into a life of commercialism.
Governed by a devil of materialism.
Given a history lesson full of cents.
Chasing a dream on the backs of blacks
Broken by the ages of misguided hate.
I lost a child.
Staring down the barrel of a gun.
Shot by a system designed to
Create a cycle of dependency.
Short change the mental capacity,
Never acknowledging
Worth
Beauty
Possibility.
Taught that good enough is great.
I lost a child today.
Every breath I give to never loose another.
Every lesson I teach.
Every poem I write.
Every time we unite.
Every moment we never give in.
But always look up.
We can save another.
